I have a Dell Inspiron 570. Six years old. Been very dependable.

Something malfunctioned with the cooling fan and it needs to be replaced.

I am looking for Socket AM 3 type cooling fan and heat sink to replace this unit but need specifics to make a purchase.

Any advice is welcome. Please provide a link or links to the specific item. So far I've come up dry when searching online.

For example, this unit looks to be a match but the dimensions are different and this attaches with something other than a screw at each corner.

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Socket-Co.../dp/B0044FJGFM

My fan is 2 inches high x 3.5 inches deep (screw mounting to screw mounting) x 3.5 inches wide.

Picture is attached showing socket/processor and the cooling fan.

Thank you.

Is the 570 a tower PC? If you have the space for it, this is what I'd recommend.

Or find another cooler that fits. Any mainstream CPU cooler will have an AM3 mounting option.

Or as previous poster mentioned, look for OEM replacement that will drop in as it's worked well for you.

My laptop doesn't go anywhere, but there are times the room gets hot here in the summer. But I keep it next to the AC when its hot. But that wasn't quite enough and I hooked up a small fan which continually blows air on the bottom of the laptop. Its sitting on a milkcrate, with an over wire shelf over it that supports the computer. Below the fan is set up so that as soon as the laptop is powered, it begins running. It's been quite effective.

My old one, an HP, developed a problem with overheating, and as I still need to get a lot of files off of it, I'm curious how well those gismo's which plug into your laptop and circulate air inside the structure. If it keeps it cool enough to get the imporant stuff off, even if its multiple sessions, then it would be worth it.

I had one which did fry itself, and luckily, the hard drive survived so I was able to get its contents but have now been forwarned.

As a follow up question, the new location requires a wireless adapter card. I believe I'll see better speed with an internal adapter than a USB adapter.

Here are the slots inside the machine - see attached.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome.
