I'm getting a used HP EliteBook 8740w laptop on eBay for very good price. It's a gaming laptop from the days of Windows 7, but it currently runs Ubuntu Linux 14.04 LTS, the same as my Acer Aspire 5515. My question is does it have a 32 or 64 bit CPU? I want to install the proper OS.

How much did you pay for it?

It's 64.

It's also not a gaming laptop, but it has discrete graphics so it should be okay, provided you're fine with what 2010 graphics can deliver, which is not much.

I got it for $212.49 (plus s/h) on eBay. It's got a i5 2.40 Ghz CPU, 4 gig of RAM, 320 gig HD, 17" monitor, DVDRW drive. It can also take an SD chip on the front of it and has a webcam.

Did I get a good deal on it?

No, I don't think you got a good deal on it.

They advertise it as a gaming laptop. The graphics are fine with me, I don't really game that much. The most intensively graphic game is Linux's Super Tux Kart. I mostly surf the web and watch streaming anime. Did I get a fair price on it?

Thanks both of you for your help.

Next time you need a used laptop, I suggest buying a refurbished one directly from the manufacturer. I just bought a refurbished Dell Precision M4800 with i7-4800MQ, 16GB of Ram, Quadro K1100M graphic card, Ultraclear FHD screen with a 100 day warranty for less than $300.

Smeg.

How much should have paid for it? I can't afford the latest laptop and I thought it was a good deal. My current laptop over heats and powers down right in the middle of things, which is quite annoying. Also, Firefox 55 keeps crashing, but it won't allow me to ugrade to the latest version, Firefox (57) Quantum.

Has anyone else used Firefox Quantum?

I currently have only have $270. I'm on SSI, so I only get $30 per month. I made sure to get a six fan USB stand as well. There's no way that I'm going to have another laptop overheat! What should have paid for it?

You paid what you could afford. I would just enjoy the laptop and call it a day.
