I was using KingSoft for a while, then I got Word 2016.
KingSoft is OK, but it brings ads any time I use it.
For some reason it has a sort of privilege: any word documents I open use KingSoft, not Word.
I tried to use "Settings" to correct that, but it does not work.
How do I get rid of KingSoft: uninstall it?

You need to associate the file type to the default program. Process is similar for most Windows versions. Uninstalling Kingsoft should also solve the problem. With Kingsoft gone Word files should automatically launch and open Word.

Without the Windows version number it's hard to give detailed directions for file type association steps, but it should be in this search for your version.

First of all, it is not clear, how to get to Control Panel.
It appears, Windows 10 does not have one. The only thing I can get is "Settings", but there is no "Programs" there...

Click Settings.

Click Apps.

At the top right of the screen, under "Change app defaults," click "Open Default app Settings."

At the bottom of the page, click, "Set defaults by app."

Scroll down to Word 2016.

Opening the Control Panel in W10:

Go to the Search field in your Taskbar.

Enter "Control Panel" and click "Enter."

There you go.

I actually keep the Control Panel pinned to my taskbar.

Scroll down to Word 2016.
Thank you.
I did find Word 2016. When I click on it, the word "Manage" appears, however, I cannot set Word 2016, as a default.
What is the next step, please?

What do you see when you click "Manage?"
