We've all seen this situation before. When the office tech person quits/dies/whatever, the rest have no clue. They only use the system, don't maintain it. They have no idea what is meant by words like linux, source code, operating system, etc. It's all black box to them, especially if it is a customized system.

I worked at **** hole company for 22 years. The only reason I stayed was because I loved my job, which was taking care of the computers, programming, etc.

I had a conversation one day with the HR twit and mentioned that they needed to find a backup for me for times when I was gone. Someone in the organization had already approached me about wanting to learn about computers. HR response? "No one is irreplaceable." And what exactly does that have to do with being intelligent enough to have a backup for when I'm on vacation?

Fast forward a few years and I've enough of the lousy attitudes and ridiculous raises while getting more and more responsibilities dumped in my lap. I found another job. My manager about had a heart attack when I handed him an envelope with his name on it. He knew exactly what it was.

I found out later that they had to hire two people to do my job. LMAO! Keep in mind that I built all the systems, programs, computers, everything from day one. Why they thought someone with no background in what I had done would be able to just pick it all up I will never understand.

Where would one even begin to troubleshoot?...Random people on the internet obviously can't tell you what's wrong.
LOL, dude must think we got a [expletive] crystal ball and magic wands.

I don't know which is sadder- that he got into this situation in the first place, or that he thinks that some dufuses on the internet, given zero useful information about something thunk up in some other random dufus' head, can magically pull helpful answers out of their butts for him.
