The inventory system at work allows us to stock items onto shelves for later use. We scan them to a location. Some glitch removes the items in the system even though they are still on the shelf. The ordering department then orders more. How do I fix the glitch so the items aren't deleted from inventory?
It's this company's ware I wouldn't call soft as no one else would know it
It's our own ware no one can figure out. The guy who made it died and nobody can figure out how to fix the issue.

It's pretty much impossible to troubleshoot some totally random unknown software with a problem description that amounts to "it doesn't work."
Where would one even begin to troubleshoot?
If you have access to the code, maybe someone with some technical skills at your workplace could have a look. Random people on the internet obviously can't tell you what's wrong.
This reminds me of the old Dilbert cartoon, where everyone was in awe of the old-timer who wrote a mission critical program as spaghetti code and couldn't be fired.
Areas to check are network and caching issues. Custom and older software can also be platform dependent. Upgrades to the OS can raise havoc.
You need to consider dumping the software entirely and replacing it with a program that can be maintained.
ALL software have bugs, exploits, and frequently need modification for when user needs change.
None can happen if the code isn't updatable.
You're choices are to pay a very high-end software engineer to diagnose and fix the program (and you'll be dependent on him and his rates from now on), or just recognize it's a lost cause and replace it with a product that has a more credible service future. Keep in mind, your business's bottom line depends on this software, and you're hoping some other bug doesn't appear in the worst possible time.
Say you had a courier company that currently uses a DeLorean. It works fine, but you are risking the future of your company in the hopes it won't strand you during your next long distance road trip because there are NO parts or experienced service techs left?
If this is similar to what Sears uses, then it's not a glitch. It's old outdated software that can't tell the difference between a retail sold part and a technician sold part (technician uses wrong code and thus hit's retail inventory). There should be a time delay before the system creates a retail order, so there should be a reconcile report each morning for you to go through and adjust the items back into your inventory. There is no support for it except to replace the software.
