This is their standard diagnosis for almost any problem that is not clearly a motherboard/memory issue- "bad harddrive", even if it is really a software problem. Never, ever use the geekwads. The odds are good that there was absolutely nothing wrong with your drive. Don't use any of the 'office supply' stores either. Talk to people and find a good independent tech...heck, get a 10 year old neighbor kid before you use any geekwads.
