Newegg.com - D-Link DGL-4300 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless Gaming Router - Retail

Installed for over a year now. Flawless and fast. Replaced all NICs with gigabyte at that time.

Default Thumbs up to D-Link

Nice choice Tek_Freek - I personally use D-Link and Netgear products myself and I have never had any major problems for the past 5yrs.

I upgraded from a D-Link b/g router to the newer D-Link Xtreme N DIR-655 which is awesome..!!!

The best default router is the Linksys WRT54G. I'd recommend getting the GL because it's flash-able, and you can add your own firmware on it if you'd like.

However, I will admit I am partial to Apple products, and I am a huge fan of the Apple Airport Express. You can hook up your speakers to stream iTunes wirelessly, and you can hook up a printer, to print wirelessly also. It's $100, so it's considerably more expensive than the 54G ($50), so that's a decision you'll have to make.

I've had issues with Linksys, Netgear, Belkin, D-Link, etc.

I've found I like Linksys' interface and stability the best. But netgear has the ability to set static local IPs, which is useful.

Seconded. If you have some technical ability, you may also want to look into the OpenWRT project. It's replacement firmware for Linksys and other routers that gives you a lot of added functionality.

I use the sveasoft, software in two linksys router to act as a bridge. Lets me eliminate wires from the main router and modem to the desktop. I have had one router in the detatched garage 100 feet away when the kids were really into Xbox parties.

The newer linksys wrt54gs use diferent software, and not the open software sevasoft supported. So if your interested in additional capabilities of your router then be sure to check model and serial numbers on the proposed unit before buying it to be sure it is the correct version. Both websites should have information on what works best.

I have used the linksys routers for about 4 years now and am just now starting to have an issue with my main router. Doesn't like to handle the data throughput of video chatting in either wireless or wired connection.
