With today's availability of a phone with a camera, I now always, no matter what it is, take pictures of what I am working with.

For instances where I need to get access to a hard drive, a run of the mill one or an SSD I have an external "adapter case" that can make any drive an "on its own drive". This adapter/case has a USB3 plug.

Found these videos showing the interior of the model I have (the one that is not working, whose SSD I'll attach to my laptop to transfer files). After I opened it yesterday to practice removing the SSD, I couldn't close the case properly any more; haven't found where it's stuck).

This makes the computer try to turn back on, and drains any on-board capacitors. (It doesn't effect the motherboard clock or it's battery).
This is key. Great advice, Ed.

Although I disagree that static is this big killer.

I noticed the still from the second video verifies your WiFi plug location.

Thanks all (for both the help, tips and encouragement ).

I received the adapter. After I connected the SSD to my laptop, I got the message "You need to format the disk in F: before you can use it", and it has the "Format"/"Cancel" buttons. I clicked on cancel but it's useless, that dialog stays on the screen asking me to format. No way I would format it and lose all my files (the reason I took out the SSD in the first place). So need help: How to transfer the data from the SSD to laptop? How to get rid of this formatting request?

Thanks again!

Two different operating systems? I think (think ) that would affect the outcome if the OS on the SSD from the Lenovo was newer than the one in the laptop.

Edit: Not the best news you'll hear, it just might be the reason the Lenovo won't boot is that the drive has failed.

There are some progs out there that might get past the error. I think Recuva might be one. I'll look into it.

Yeah I'd try Recuva

I changed a USB port and now it's working!!! I'm now in the process of copying the files to laptop!!
(confirms no need of a separate power cable Tek )

LOL. For want of a port....

For the want of a shoe the horse was lost,
For the want of a horse the rider was lost,
For the want of a rider the battle was lost,
For the want of a battle the kingdom was lost,
And all for the want of a horseshoe-nail.”
