Help - the other day my computer froze up, I rebooted and all the icons were changed around (all on the left). I moved them to where I think I had them before - all was well for a couple days then today when I booted up the entire desktop is different, the color of the taskbar, the appearance of everything I open up.j

This site for instance has everything underlined, the contrast is jarring to me as it's too white, the colors of everything changed, the looks of everything from my email accounts to CD, Craigslist, etc. - it's making me crazy - I tried a system restore and it can't do it - I tried several diff. dates from last month and none can be done - any tips? TIA

Windows version?

Why don't you just change your settings?

I can't tell you why it changes on it's own without more information. Have you scanned for malware?

Sorry, I should have said Windows 7 - I use Firefox as a browser. I removed Malwarebytes (it "updated" to a free trial for their premium and that seemed to be shortly before my issues) - I now was able to do a system restore to last month but for some reason my bookmarks in FF didn't come over... - I have an old thumb drive w/bookmarks (talking like 2011 or so?) - and got those but all my bookmarks since are gone - I believe Malwarebytes (and possibly all the updates FF does) screwed everything up.

Malwarebytes doesn't "screw everything up".

You can easily remove the "trial" part of Malware bytes and make it free (on demand). Also right click on the icon on lower right to close it or keep it from auto starting.

Right click on the desktop, choose 'Personalize'. You can change background, font size and many other things including 'themes'

Depending on your browser, your bookmarks should have been automatically backed up in your browser profile. You might google for further help.

This is weird because something similar happened to me at about the same timeframe as the OP.

I also use Windows 7 with Firefox as my main browser. I turned my computer on one evening and everything on it had changed. My screen said that windows had changed/updated all my settings, etc. Some of my icons were missing. When I got on Firefox, all my favorites tabs were gone and the pages looked different. I then tried IE, which I also use sometimes, and that also had been altered with my favorites tabs also gone.

Worse, pictures I had in my files were also gone, or at least they had been moved where I couldn't find them. I looked around a little bit and decided maybe just turn the damn thing off and try again later.

When I started up a couple of hours later, it was all restored, like nothing had ever happened. I ran Spybots, and my anti-virus program but they detected nothing. Since then, everything has been fine. In fact, my computer has been running a bit better than it had been. Who knows?

There's a frre program called MozBackup that will save you Firefox profile (including bookmarks). You can upload your profile from the back up. It also works for Thunderbird and will back up all of your emails.
