So, I am a great fan of Facebook and their good intentions. Too bad the bad guys found a way to subvert them. But right now there are two new things that are making me hate it a little. First, when I am in a different tab in Chrome, for example city-data forum, a little box pops up in the corner everytime a FB friend makes a comment in Facebook. Disruptive! (I actually read articles, and research their sources on my own.) It happens in my email pages too. Maybe it is designed to let you know that wherever you are, whatever you do, Facebook is there and watching you. Stop already.

I also don't like that little pop up on every newsfeed article that pops up with "about this article" just when I start reading it. Then it shrinks to a "i" with a circle behind it. What is with all these disruptions. Tres annoying.

Anybody else bothered by this?

Good news is, this isn't really a browser "pop-up" which sometimes can be blocked, and sometimes not.

I'm pretty sure what' you're dealing with is Facebook specific, right? If so, than what your being annoyed with, is Facebook "Notifications". Where FB is allowed by your computer to open these little reminders that you have a message, or someone replied to your post, etc.

The good news is that such are all adjustable. You can turn them off. Go to Facebook, Settings, Notifications and select which you want and which you don't. Note: there should be different settings for notifications on your computer, on it's browser, and on your smartphone.

(And yes, I find them all annoying and have most turned off).

I think I owe you a beer/soft drink/award!! I had turned off notifications previously, but only in one spot, not knowing there were so many different places to look. Thanks for the advice, it really saved my enjoyment of using FB. Now let's hope it holds.

And Peregrine, that is good info too, although I don't have android stuff or a tablet yet. But someone reading this might.

==================

Now if I could just find a way to get rid of the "online article" pop-up that appears on every newsfeed article I would like to read on the FB site. Any ideas for that one? I mean like, who cares where the article has been shared?

Here's an excellent Add-In for Firefox or Chrome that gives you an awesome amount of control over Facebook and what it shows: "Facebook Purity" https://www.fbpurity.com/
It is very good at letting you customize what is displayed.

Their latest upgrade just fixed my All Time Annoyance: Clicking on posted videos had, in the past, always blasted my ears off as Facebook kept on resetting my browsers audio level to Max.
FBP now 'remembers' your volume setting.
