As usual Peregrine gets right to the meat of a problem.

Now I'm not saying the OP is doing this but some pirated games "phone home" to check its legitimacy so it needs the internet blocked to keep it working. Or so I heard.

Jonah's script is using the netsh command. Which will do the trick. You can also use powershell command 'Disable-NetAdapter'. Powershell is what MS is moving to (it'll even tell you when you use the netsh command).
I think so! I just recently discovered it and it seems like it does the job.

I had an issue with freezing and I wanted to eliminate pop-ups as a potential culprit because I wasn't able to alt-tab out of it to task manager.

If that was the case, then the person using the pirated software would only need to block that one game via the firewall. What I wanted to do is block everything, but I've got so much stuff running I'd need to make too many exceptions. I've got McAfee this and that -- holy moly, Win 10 has so much background stuff...

Under Win10? Win10 goes to some lengths to hide the control panel. A novice user would not find it.

Better to go to Settings from the Start menu. Or tell the poor user how to get to the Control Panel under Win10.

You can hit the Windows key on your keyboard, and start typing whatever you are looking for (this feature was one of many that made Vista instantly better than the prior versions).

So Win + Control will get you to the Control Panel with no searching.

bigbear99, thank you for the reminder. I've been trying to remember to do that.

Done.
