maybe HDD, CPU/video cooler
This sound from speaker or inside of laptop?
If second you need diagnostic in service center.
Or test yourself HDD for bad sectors, temperature and seek time for first.

Does this laptop have the traditional hard disk drive or a solid state drive (SSD)? If the former then likely it's on its way out. If the latter then maybe there's a disc in the cd-rom drive that is spinning up. Or the cooling fans for cpu/gpu going bad and making noises.

Wish I had paid attention to this symptom a month ago

Thankfully, I had about 99% of my stuff backed up.
Now I am just working on getting all the programs installed on the new system.
