Building a new computer this evening. I currently have a 1070 but gave that computer away to my daughter. Not sure if I should get the 1080 or the Titan. The titan is stupid expensive but all the research hasn't proved it is is worth it or not.

1080 Ti.

Titan not worth the premium for most users.

Thanks for the link to that awesome website.

I am basically on the other end of the speed spectrum,
but plan to build a system with two monitors
and suspect I will need a decent video card for that.

You do not need a decent video card to run 2 monitors. A $30 video card can easily handle 2 monitors. Agree a Titan is a dumb spend unless you are doing CGI typ e graphics.
Even a 1080 is overkill IMO. 1070 is the sweet spot for price versus performance.
If you're not a gamer, even a 1070 is overkill.

The only reason we got a 1070 for my wife's laptop was gaming. Except for that why spend the money?

Well, it is good to know that a $30 card will do.

No, I am not a gamer, but expected to need a $100 card for two monitors.
(That site shows 1070's run $300 and up, and 1080's around $1000).

I plan on tracking multiple news sites simultaneously, which
is a lot less demanding than gaming.

Actually, graphics intensive users like CAD, photo and other non-video gaming applications have different cards, such as Quadro and FirePro/Radeon Pro. Much more expensive, but designed (and supported) for professional graphics folks.

Probably not nukes, but they can be pretty good space heaters at full power!
