Just go to Linux and be done with it. Save yourself the frustration of dealing with keys and digital restriction management and all that BS and migrate to Debian. It's really the only practical way to go these days. Either download the CD images and record them yourself (currently ftp://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/rel.../i386/iso-dvd/ ) or you can order a set of disks (https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/#us ) Since you're talking about moving between Window$ versions you'll need the I386 version.

The installation process is really more time consuming than it is confusing. Back up all your data first. It *will* reformat your hard drive as part of the install process.


FYI, there ARE ways of making Winblows software run in Linux.
