Is anyone else experiencing this? I've googled it and tried several suggestions, but I still just get either a solid black or solid white screen when I try to open a pdf or pdf link. Any suggestions?

What application are you using to open the PDF ?
Adobe Reader ? Firefox ? Preview ? Safari ?

The Mac OS itself does not open PDFs.

And no, I have no problem with my High Sierra plus any of these apps.

(assuming adobe acrobat) i would experiment with an alternative program like evince and see if you get better mileage.

also, opening it from the command-line mite spit out some useful diagnostics.

The default viewer is Mac’s Preview, unless OP has set it to something else.

Hard to help since they’ve not come back and said which program they are trying to use...
