Several days ago I joined my first webinar ever. It was my health insurance plan's member webinar and used Cisco Webex. The site I was directed to asked me to download and install "Cisco WebEx Add-On.dmg" which I did but except for during a 4 minute pre-recorded video I had no sound from the speakers. I was able to see the graphics. Plugging in my headphones did not help. I clicked on the Webex “Audio Connection/Call Using Computer/Computer Audio Settings/Speaker: Test” several times and I did hear a tone. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), macOS High Sierra (10.13.6), and an AGT784WNV DSL Gateway. I think I needed a VoIP device such as a headphone set that also has microphone. Is that correct? Thank you.

I'll let someone with a Mac help you but I do know you don't need anything special. It certainly should work through your normal speakers.

Some will use the phone for audio because not everyone has a mic and speakers. You dial into a toll free number and enter the meeting number to join.

Thank you.

Cisco Support told me: "... make sure any video that is shared by WebEx is played in VoIP. You will be able to hear it only once a VoIP is connected. I kindly request you to use the VoIP connected devices to hear the video."

This was not terribly helpful to me but I do remember an option to get the audio by calling a phone number as you said but since I have internal speakers I chose not to. If I try to attend another webinar I will try the phone option instead.

Why wouldn't everyone have speakers? Wouldn't they be using either a cell phone, portable computer, or desktop computer?

I'd bet a huge majority have speakers. That poster probably isn't familiar with Macs either because he would know all modern Macs have speakers.
