We don't need square blocky icons on 26 inch 4K monitors. If anything Windows 7's icons and glass and UI would fit in with modern processing power and displays even better than it did when it came out.
Uh....Windows 10 was that exact admission.
Windows 10 was "Sorry... yea. We went to far. We know you weren't quite ready for that. Here's your start menu back... and yea, you can remove those tiles now...."

This just looks like an updated 7 to me:

Try "Classic Shell" with that. You get the old Win2k/WinXP start button and menu. Unless you like the Win7 new start button organization which I hated.

No. Absolutely not. I LOVE Windows 10 exactly the way I have it there. No way am I going back to "Classic Shell". I set that up for my 80 year old mother in law because she can't stand any change.
But there's no way I am going back. Shell sucks compared to 10 IMO. I have everything I need in that 10 menu including universal search. I see ZERO advantage to "Classic Shell" besides some other program running on top of my 10 just slowing things down when there's no need.

That's why we have optional things like themes and for browsers add-ons. No one thing will please everybody.

If something small like Classic Shell slows your computer you have other problems.

My computer is not even remotely slow. Just saying, classic shell DOES indeed load at Windows startup. Even if it takes a half second to load, there's nothing to gain IMO. I just don't see a need for it when Microsoft finally allows you to remove the tiles and put shortcuts on the left part of your Win10 start menu. Just saying... people should try customizing the 10 start bar before resorting to a 3rd party tool.

My guess for extra loading time is about 10-25 milliseconds. Note that my career was in hardware/software engineering.

I just downloaded win 10 on a win 8 laptop I just bought. I was really hating it till someone told me to download this classic shell program. It look so much like win 7 now. Except sadly I cannot use my ms money.

People just don't like change. I use Windows 10 as my daily driver and there's nothing wrong with it. I have traditional Win 32 apps along with the modern "Metro" sandboxed apps. Best of both worlds.

My only issue with Windows 10 is that there aren't enough Metro apps to make it worth using it in that way exclusively. You go to the Microsoft store and there are a few apps, but not many.

Like I would prefer to use Office this way. But the Office apps they offer are a joke compared to the regular Win 32 of Office. Even Microsoft's Android apps for Word and Excel are better.

A lot of people just want one or the other. But they should just stick with Windows 7 or go to Mac and Linux, which still support that UI.
