Windows 7 is actually the predicessor to Vista, and is quite a robust/secure operating system.

I installed it on my computer last week.
Problem with it is that not many hardware manufacturers have updated their drivers to run under Windows 7. If you find this to be a problem, try running the problem hardware using the Vista drivers.
Vista arguably had LESS security issues than XP.

Windows 7 is the successor, not predecessor, to Vista and could be called Vista R2.

Windows 7 and Vista use the same driver model so there's very little, if any, work required updating drivers this time around.

And yes, this thread is three years old.

Also, there are two current threads dealing with upgrading to Windows 7. Since it is unlikely that anyone is going to upgrade to Vista any longer, perhaps this thread has outlived its usefulness.

Actually; since I already downloaded Vista SP2-------------Win7 would be SP3 AKA what Vista should have been when it first was released.

They made too many changes to call it a service pack. It's a .1 upgrade like 3.1, 98SE, or XP was.

So what are you going to call 7 when Vista SP3 comes out, Vista SP4?

I don't see an SP3 coming for Vista. It was like pulling teeth to get an SP3 for XP and hundreds of millions of people were running XP and begging for a rollup of the 100+ patches since SP2. I don't see them putting any more effort into Vista at this point.

Why not?

All kidding aside: as per another post I made--------------Win7 is what Vista should have been in the beginning.

You are probably correct; if anything, Windows XP support will last longer than for Vista.

I could actually see an SP3 for Vista, wouldn't surprise me either way though, MS may hope it just disappears into oblivion like ME
