Computer is a Piece Of...
It took me about a half hour just to get my connection up long enough to get this smoke signal out...
This newest ordeal didn't start until we moved into this house last June.
I don't know whether it's this infamous wonderful new Windows Vista or our Verizon DSL connection,or some sort of 'ghost in the machine' but I've got more connection dropouts than even our cable or satellite TV!
It drops out when there's a small breeze,a drop of rain,or sometimes nothing at all! It stays out alot though when it's about to rain,so I don't even need an aging relative with arthritis to tell me they 'feel rain in their bones'...my internet connection is enough of an indicator to tell me when the rain is coming!
I've never heard of connections going out because of barometric pressure before, but I have a feeling it might be the Vista because there's another computer upstairs that has XP and has only a fraction of these problems!
So frustrating!

I agree!
I agree entirely with Vista being worse than XP. One of Microsoft's senior employees recently said that Vista was still in the experimental stage. Couple that with driver incompatibility, over-the-top RAM usage, and you just about have an operating system that works worse than windows 98, and that's saying something!
It seems that since the advent of Microsoft organising their products by year every other one of Microsoft's releases are poor quality. We start with Windows 95, which was OK. Then came 98, which was buggy and had few new options compared to 95. Then NT was a whole new release, again, good, then 2000/ME mucked it all up. Then came XP, which has been the best windows ever, and then Vista keeps the trend going by being rubbish.

That's why I hate when anyone does any kind of 'maintenance, updates,or improvements' because it usually means more problems!
I live by the saying 'If it ain't broke,Don't fix it!'...
But I understand, the bored techies gotta feel useful so they feel the need to be tinkering with stuff all the time.

If it is weather dependant, then you have a wiring issue. Especially if it is DSL.. Somewhere between the modem and the phone company is one or more bad connections or corrosion causing intermittent breaks and other issues. Call you company tech support, they should be able to do a line quality test.
All rumors are consistent on one thing, Vista Sucks.

I think it very well may be a wiring issue because whenever my wife takes the hose out to the side of the house the connection goes out, that may be where some wiring is.
I also heard it may be that we now live farther from the DSL 'junction box' or whatever it's called and that may have affected the reception as well. But I asked my neighbor and she claims her and some others on this street have no problems with their connection^

It's Verizon DSL. Worst internet provider ever, from their phone tech support to the people who come to your house and stretch a 10 minute job to 4 hours.
I'm waiting for my cable company to bring internet here so I can drop Verizon completely. We all have cell phones so I don't even need the land line anymore.

Agreed. Figure out where the wire is in the yard, take a spade and chop it in ten different places at least two feet apart, then call for repair. I had a neighbor that tried playing nice with a connection issue like this, and kept getting patch jobs and run-arounds for months, when what was needed was a replacement cable. If running a hose causes problems, then the incoming cable needs replacing. There might be additional issues, but that needs to be fixed first.

Now I'm still hearing conflicting stories about people in the neighborhood that may have been having similar problems, which then sounds like it may be the issue of being too far from the main station. Similar to many people trying to connect to one number with dialup.

My Windows Me has worked flawlessly now for 8 years,am upgrading to XP so as able to be more current with the times since Microsoft no longer supports it with up grades.
