I only have a Pentium 1.5, so that makes mine a Pentium, I guess. I have upgrade the RAM to 2 gigs. though. What does that mean in terms of a Linux?

Not necessary just a Pentium.
What's the make and model of your computer and then I may be able to get an idea of what processor you have via online search.

Otherwise it's a "beautiful looking" real eye-candy distro.
I don't know how well it would run on your Pentium 2 though.

Yea, it is a more demanding distro compared to others, but it seems to work very well.
I still love my Vista even though I do have a Linux machine, and have quite a bit of experience with OSX

Intel Centrino 1.5GHz I believe is what you have which is a Pentium M and a circa 2004 laptop.
This is a desktop equivalent roughly to a Pentium 4 2.26Ghz., Northwood core.
What does this all mean?
You shouldn't have any problem running Linux on those computer hardware specs even adding another 256mb RAM would be great butttttttt..... However there have been issues on many Toshiba laptop models with Linux support. Blame Toshiba on that one as I've read about this in my early Linux learning days.
Join one of the Linux forums online and ask that question pertaining to your particular model.
One of my meager computers is a Pentium 3, 933Mhz, 512mb RAM running Linux Mint with no problem.
Still, do you really want to use your wifes backup computer?
If it were me I would try to find another computer to do with what you want with it.

With the two gigs I put in it this afternoon, it is a lot snappier, but I'll have to give this idea a wee bit of thought, since we have some expenses looming on the horizon. Maybe I can find one cheap. This one has another issue I don't know what to do about, but I guess that's another thread. Still, its working fine, aside from claiming I'm not connected, when I definitely am...

Look in the Free section of Craigslist or join Freecycle as you might get lucky to find someone looking to give away a computer absolutley FREE, but you have to be real fast in claiming it though.
-OR-
Look in Craigslist under "computers" and see if you can find a used cheap computer. It doesn't need to be the cutting-edge either.
My fastest computers are Pentium 4's and I'm happy. They came my way via finding, building and or repairing = free.
By having your own "if" you happen to make a mistake at least it's not on your wifes backup which obviously will be untouched and your wife won't be on your back and you'll just either figure it out or ask questions on how to fix whatever problems on yours. Linux has a great online helping community via forums.
Just take your time and don't act in haste - you'll get there in time.

I was just taking a look. Just at a glance, it looks like some very nice deals from people just trying to unload stuff. Thanks for the tip. I'll take it slow. I'll have to do this on my weekends (Mon-Wed), when I have time.

Good idea to take it slow and still try to look for the freebies.

I'm looking into small versions of Linux (Puppy Linux and Damn Small Linux) to try on an antique Dell Inspiron laptop (Pentium 2, maxed out at 128 MB of RAM and a 10 gig HD) just to see how good these versions of Linux are.

You might also want to check out SLAX (a nice little LiveCD based on Slackware), and Austrumi is also good on older boxes though a bit limited in applications. Austrumi used Enlightenment as its main window manager before, but it's been a little while since I past played with it.
