A client called me the other day and is looking for a laptop. He said he found two of interest. Toshiba and Dell at Best Buy. Toshiba $750, Dell $700 (I think it might have been $50 higher on each). Anyway the Dell specs I could get out of him:

3GB RAM
250GB drive
Intel graphics
R/W DVD CD

He said the sheet he had didn't list the CPU, but I figure he didn't know it when he saw it.

That didn't sound too tacky for the money, but the CPU bothers me.

Hang on.....

This is it. Should have done this earlier. Same unit, different colors. $750

Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor T5750; 3GB DDR2 memory; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; 15.4" widescreen; 250GB hard drive; built-in webcam; Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1

If you can stand the small keyboard, the light uses you need might make you a good candidate for one of these at $399.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

I've had one since April and I never fail to get attention with it out in public.

I got mine from Best Buy, BTW.
