First question - did you do an upgrade from ME to XP, or was it a clean install?

Now, I'm not really sure of what the problem is - the description is somewhat vague. What program are you working in? What "field" are you referring to? What are you ending in task manager if the list is blank? We need a little more info to go on.

Somewhat? You are a kind individual.

I, For one, have to ask: What the Hell are you talking about, OP?

Slow down and try again..... More , more, more!

How old is your PC?

How much RAM do you have?

How much free hard drive space do you have?

Did you upgrade from ME or do a clean install of XP?

Have you been to Windows Updates since you loaded XP?

How much beer did you drink before posting this question?

If you could answer the first five questions, it would help immensely.

Adding to the other questions for clarification: After reading the OP, would you also be so kind as to tell us if English is your primary language? For example, "My XP on start up and when ....." doesn't seem to start a logical statement, so I can't tell what you are asking.

Agree with the asks from the other posters. Your mention of using Task Manager prompted me to suggest this nice little app. It will provide far more information than task manager does and is very useful for knowing what's running and who the software supplier is. Process Explorer.

Yeah, pretty vague. Reads like a Comptia exam. *chuckle*
