I don't know anything about Vista, but it seems to me a guy should be able to use any browser he wants to, at any time -- or at the same time. On my XP, I have three browsers on the desktop; IE, FF, and Opera.

Firefox has been my default browser since version 0.9

What's the problem?

As far as I know, you need to use IE for Microsoft Updates and Microsoft downloads in general. I haven't tried it with Firefox 3, so my experience may not match yours.

Windows Update requires IE, but not every website is Windows Update, and the automatic update feature in Windoze doesn't even use the browser. Also, there's a plugin for Firefox that lets you use the IE rendering engine within a Firefox tab.

There's just no reason to use IE anymore if you don't want to...

Well: I have been running FireFox 3.0 for about a week now---------and, my clunky Vista machine now acts like a good Apple.

I can really tell the difference whenever I use Windows Messenger and open up my Hotmail through it----------there it defaults back to IE and is a bloody slow pike pig.

Somebody told me how to fix my WebMailCompose addon (for FF), but I didn't fix it right away and lost that information. I can no longer click on an email address and send it to the mail program I want it to go to. Instead, it opens IE and tries to go to Hotmail. I wish I could at least fix it so it doesn't do that. My wife had this computer first and had it set up to go there, somehow.

I would recommend Firefox, because I love it and it is basically amazing, but I've been using google's new browser and that seems like a winner also. It is still in the beta version, so there will be a few wrinkles that they'll be ironing out, but I cannot stand Internet Explorer. I don't know how anybody can.

I was just curious what version of IE you have. I was thinking maybe you could go back to an earlier version to see what happens. Then maybe you could go back to the newer one...something like that.
not really
thats why Windows Update is integrated into Vista
you can pretty much get everything through through it
unlinke xp that needed IE to check updates manually..
and in vista there is no earlier version its 7 and thats it until the release of ie 8
