Guess I'll chime in and point out that CTFMON is a junker as well. I had spybot take it out of my registry so it doesn't hit the startup folder. If you use IE, it'll still run, but Firefox doesn't start it.

FWIW, I run AVG manually, since I don't open email attachments and use a text based email program.

I think with that we have trashed everything in your startup. High fives all around.

You NEED to get all the critical and security updates for Windows. The easiest way to catch up on this is to install SP3. If anybody mentioned deleting the Temporary Internet Files, I missed it, but it will definitely help IE. Computers running XP need at least 1 GB RAM. 256 MB is totally inadequate. In my work, I've upgraded a few hundred of them and saw the improvement. At this time, I usually order 1 GB sticks and try to leave some of the old memory in if I can.

I personally would prefer the two gig solution, but if I took the one gig route, does it matter what the order is?

Most of the ones I have done were Dell Optiplex or Latitude machines. It didn't matter. If it had 512 in 2 256 sticks, I'd take either one out and put in a 1 Gig stick.

I knew something was weird! I kept looking at the dates and thinking, "I don't remember posting that." I wasn't picking up on the year, just the day. LMAO!!!

At the least the previous poster gave decent advice. janu123 keep the posts coming, but watch those dates.
