There is a program called Save to My PC that can do that. I don't have the details with me today, since I'm working off a laptop, but you can search for it.

Here's one. You might find more. I haven't tried any so I can't say I like it or not. Major Geeks does try all of them and makes sure they don't contain malware and it is considered to be a trusted site. They have a pretty decent collection of a number of different types of programs. I like to go through and poke around from time to time.

Rather than download software just go to this link;

KeepVid: Download and save any video from Youtube, Dailymotion, Metacafe, iFilm and more!

Then paste the link of the video you want to save into the box and click download. It will save it to your computer, it also works with videos for some other sites to, not just youtube.

I often download video files for my iPod. I have Windows 7 and I usually I use Convert-tune
http:// convert-tune. com/ index. html,
it is easy to use and it converts video to MP4, WMV, AVI and 3gp. In addition,
it features free CD ripper and CD burner.

Old thread revived by a spammer (post #5), but I thought I'd throw my two cents in for the search engines...

Firefox + DownloadHelper works great. If you want to convert to different formats, you have to pay for the non-free version, but if all you're looking for is a tool to save the video files to your system, DownloadHelper is free and stupidly easy to use.

Easy. With Firefox I use DownloadHelper 4.7.3 extension. You can download videos from other sources as well like CNN, etc. Very handy utility. VLC is one of the apps I use to play back the downloaded videos, .flv, mp4, .avi, etc.

You guys will eventually see the pattern like I do and won't even waste your time responding. Hints:
1. Poster's first post!!
2. Poster has a question that is screaming "suggest an application"
3. Poster's name is typically in the format of an actual sounding first name and surname (Keithrichardson) yet sadly at least one of the initials is in lower case (yikes, Not even the American with the worst grammar on this forum would not make that mistake).
4. Naive regulars (Us) genuinely respond to the initial post.
5. He or his body comes back after a few posts with a Spam + link, nothing further develops.
6. They come back to start a new thread under different names.
7. Repeat steps #1-6
