How do people find out where a computer has been on the internet? Law enforcement can confiscate a persons machine and know what has been viewed, even if all the search histories have been erased/deleted. How do they do that?

I'm just wondering why it is you are wanting to know? I don't feel like getting wrapped into something that I shouldn't be involved with. No offense.

If I told you, I'd have to...

Remember that ISPs have logs. Anything you do on the net leaves multiple traces beyond your control. Searching a computer is just the easiest way to get information. To give you an idea of how deep traces can go, when a drive head writes to a hard disk, it doesn't write in the precise same position each time. Scanning electron microscopes can show the data at the edges of a written track, even if the track has been over-written. All of this is no big deal if you have nothing to hide.

I doubt anybody has much to worry about unless a person is suspected of trading, buying or selling kiddy porn, may have killed somebody, has smuggled arms, or has made threats against the president. But that's just my opinion.

Don't worry, I'm as innocent as fresh snow.

I needed to get to a phone number I had on a private message mail box on another forum. I figured that if I viewed it in the past, there would be like a snap shot of the screen I could look at when I was there. The forum was down at the time I needed the number, my luck. Next time I shall write down any info I need on a scrap of paper right away, the .net is unreliable, lesson learned.

thx

Try this: Recovering Deleted Files
and look for RESTORATION

I use it all the time. It may be able to recover your internet cache file.
