LCD Monitor issue
I have a 19" LiquidVideo LCD monitor that I've been using for 3 or 4 years now. I run a desktop machine in my home, leaving it on 24/7, but I do turn the monitor off each night by depressing the Power button.
Lately, I've had trouble with the monitor. When I push the power button on, the monitor will turn on briefly (1 - 2 seconds), and then make a slight "popping" noise and turn off again. So, I began leaving the monitor on all night, using the screensaver feature to darken the screen.
This morning, the monitor was off. I turned it on and it did the same thing. The power light came on, the monitor powered up, the desktop flashed for a split second, then a popping noise and it powered down. BUT, it continued to do this cycle repetitively for approx 20 cycles. At that point, I pushed and held the power button on the monitor and it stopped cycling (just powered down).
Does anybody have any ideas?

LCD's break.. get a new one or if your cheap pick up a CRT there basically free these days (well except the really good ones.. computers geeks will buy those )
Main thing that I've seen break on LCD's besides for the normal cracked laptop screen.. is the backlight going out, that's what it sounds like in your case.. to do a backlight test.. simply put a flashlight up to it if you have the GREEN power on (or whatever color it is) and see if you see your desktop.. but the last thing besides a crack screen that breaks on LCD's and this more likely applies to laptops is the inverters go out.. they supply power to the backlight and are the thing you use to make the brightness go up and down.. (they lower/raise the voltage or some such thing)
If you were using a HDTV which is what I use as a monitor.. (it's a geek thing right?) you can sometimes upgrade the firmwares on them via USB plugs and other ways.. but I highly doubt that is your circumstance..

I wonder if it's the monitor or the video card.
The popping you hear very well could be a capacitor on the video card.
Just had this happen to my son's. Out of 10, 4 popped.
Are you comfortable openiung the side of the case to see if you have a video card?

Replace the monitor as suggested. Another common issue is capacitor failure, I've fixed 9 or 10 monitors by replacing failed caps, but it's not a job for the uninitiated.

The advice given at the time of the original post was wrong (the monitor powered itself off), but the OP never came back and responded, so we still have no idea if any advice helped.

I wish. Most of yesterday was spent trying to recover a customers data from a Lacie 1TB NAS using a RAID 0 that had a failed controller board, don't know who's bright idea it was over there to use a striped array for a backup drive
