Default RAM upgrade help!

I purchased my PC with 1GB of RAM, it has a total of 4 slots with a maximum capacity of 8GB.
I am thinking to add 3-2GB to have a total of 7GB. I was able to find 2GB memory for about $34.
Am I suppose to go with the same number(4-2GB) all the way?
Thanks

Depends on your motherboard, if it is dual channel, then you need to install memory in pairs (e.g. 2x 1GB + 2x 2GB).

etk1131 is on a distinguished road
Nothing on PC Connection or Lenovo's site say anything about memory needing to be installed in pairs. Just as an FYI, however, if you do not have a 64-bit operating system, the maximum memory you will be able to address is 4 GB (realistically about 3.5 GB). So 8 GB (or 7 GB in your case) would be overkill and unnecessary. You'd probably be just fine buying another 1 GB stick and doubling the current amount.

No. You can put any combination of memory stick sizes on those Lenovo machines. Just remember that most PC's will not see anything above 3.5 GB because of the limits of their operating systems.

Using paired ram isn't mandatory, but if you want to take advantage of dual channeling with optimal performance then you want to use identical sticks of ram.

Yup! Not mandatory, but why not? It's so cheap there's no reason not to.
