I got a new video card -- my old card had 1/2 gig of DDR2 -- the new one has 1 gig of DDR3. However, I don't see a difference in performance. The new card, a Visiontek 4670, is quieter than the old card, a Visiontek 2600XT, and I believe the new card uses less energy, but I don't really see a gain in FPS.
Do you know the FPS for both cards? What games? You can only see so many FPS anyway, after a certain amount you really can't see the difference. I'd look at the shading, etc, in the games to see if they've changed at all.
You don't see performance gains where? Surfing the web, running Word, what? You won't see any performance gains there. For gaming it depends on the games, if the old card was more than adequate for the games you play, you won't see much mprovement, but the new one may let you crank up the eye candy if the old one didn't, we need to know which games your talking about.

Unless you are going to do 3-D gaming, you won't see a major difference in anything like video processing, internet, or regular office-type programs.
Yah, it also helps to have run a 3dmark test or at minimum vista's windows experience.. and it also helps to know the fps prior and after on games.. but it should be clearly understand that it's not just graphics cards that help games it is ram and it cpu if you haven't joined the quad core 10.0 ghz club yet (and even then bus speed helps) so the idea is.. understand that speed increases are sometimes a number of factors not just one..
Alright, here's how I gauged the FPS difference, or lack there of:
In FS2004, at the same graphics detail, I got the same hit in FPS flying over LAX with my new card as I did with my old card. Same goes for a certain area of the Karkand map in BF2. And, in Silent Hunter III, I got a slight hit when panning around the harbor before departing, just as I did with the old card. Perhaps they're not exactly the same hits in FPS, but they're very close.

Indeed, it seems the bottleneck isn't in the GPU or the card's memory. I'm in the dual core club, and running Vista.

Walk into BestBuy or CircuitCity. According to the sales people I've seen in there you need a Cray to run anything heavier than notepad. The hubby of a coworker was almost suckered into buying an Alienware laptop....and all he does is Access (and that at a low level).

Yeah, all my games are patched up to date.
