The box with the check mark- on the right-hand side?

It appeared today at the bottom of my screen on another computer that I use. Right clicking does not indicate what it is and I can't close it. When I perform an alt-cntrl-del to see what is running, I don't know what I'm looking for.

Hmm, there's nothing in your Task Manager Applications tab that you don't recognize? If not, look in the Processes tab. Sort by User Name and ignore ones like SYSTEM or SERVICE. Use the process of elimination. Google the ones you don't recognize.

That icon is located in the Quick Launch Bar. All icons on that toolbar are shortcuts that are contained in a folder.

Right click the toolbar in an open area. Click on Open Folder. Check the properties of the icon there.

Edit: The program is not running.

Thanks- I see now- it's my scanner. Until now, when it is in use, it has shown as HP Solution Center, not an icon. Not sure why it has changed, as I haven't changed the way that I access it. But at least it's not the evil eye or anything!

Thanks again.
