How do you figure? What does one, single-layer 4.7GB rewritable DVD run? $1.00?.

Depends how big the files are and how often you need to transfer stuff!

Sometimes I'll network my computers.

Sometimes I just copy things onto my external hard drive or iPod and walk it over!

What are you trying to do????

I meant 'easier' actually, burning file sets onto CD's or DVD's is not something I look forward to Roxio or not. But we cannot assume that the o.p.'s machine even has a DVD burner. If it does not a transfer cable or flash drive are much cheaper options.

The OP didn't say what kind of computers were involved. It would be difficult to put a 3.5" hard disk in a laptop, for example.

We don't even know if a CD burner is available either.

I'm in the same situation, except my old pc, CD doesn't function. This prevents transfer via CD, also external HDs, due to CD set-up ofd flashdrive use. Old pc also has 3.5" that I have mucho files. It is sitting beside my new HP and I wonder how I can link or transfer. I would love to utilize the old 3.5".

Any simple solutions ? The transfer cable is an option but can one transfer 'some' but not every file ? I'd like to link them.

Get an external, USB connector cable and power adapter, or, if you want to make it a more permenant attachment, buy an external USB connected hard disk enclosure. Try newegg or TigerDirect.

If you are hooking up a 3.5" hard disk, you need to power it; same for any SATA drive.

Here's one I like for 2.5" PATA drives:

Sabrent 2.5" USB 2.0 to IDEPATA Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure - Black SBT-EKU25 at TigerDirect.com

Here's one for a 3.5" drive:

Sabrent 3.5" USB 2.0 to SATASATA II External Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure - Black EC-STUK at TigerDirect.com

I am sure the cablw will come with software that will allow you to choose exactly which files you want to transfer if you don't want to transfer them all. If it doesn't there must be freeware or shareware stuff on Download.com or Tucows (do they still exist?) or wherever.
