It didnt fit because that is a horrible design to have the USB port sitting that deep into the laptop.

No kidding - looking at that thing, I'm not sure the head of my usb cable would even fit into that port - if it did, it would be close. That's one thing I made a point of looking for when I bought my laptop - it has four usb ports, two on each side, right by the front. The only issue I ever have is trying to fit two thumb drives in one side at the same time, since they crowd each other. But that's easily avoided.
