Since I've used only the touchpad on my laptop for the past several years, (and am constantly on my computer) I have no need for a mouse or a mousepad. I guess one might argue that a touchpad is a type of mouse ??

I prefer a mouse pad because it helps contain the mouse poop.
Makes for easier cleanup.

I use a wireless optical mouse and don't use a mousepad, I can use it on the bed and use the bed as the mousepad.

When I was still working my desk at work had a glass top. I had to have a mouse pad.
Now at home I haven't used a mouse pad for 8 years.

Ya Maybe I am confused Buddy...... Ya mean the laser goes as far as it has to TO REACH A SURFACE?? (I thought it was a very short beam)
