Sorry. This type of scare always brings me back to the BS that got started right after 9/11 and is still causing more bad than good. Oogie, boogie, boogie.

If I show you three sides of a house and they are all white, what color is the fourth side?

White, grey, brown, and black are not colors.

Thanks all. I know I have some dumb questions sometimes, but I really do need educated on all things 'tech'. I recently had a bit of a security scare and now I suppose I'm paranoid. Your advice and humor is appreciated!!

In one town I lived in, a guy painted his house black with purple spots in protest of some city ordinance.

Does anybody know, exactly, what threat was referred to in the OP? Daemon is not a specific enough term to describe any one specific threat. There have been very near zero threats that could not be handled by correctly installed, configured, updated and used protection software. Can the OP please post a link describing the threat?

I consider a healthy dose of paranoia a good thing. But, like anything else, too much is not so good.

It's not paranoia if they really are out to get you.

In answer to mensaguy: I heard this story on the Glenn Beck program on Monday evening on Fox News. He interviewed Mr. Suarez who wrote a book, although fictional, about a global virus called Daemon, that can take out millions of computers. And Beck said that there is indeed a bug just like it. Of course, I went to dig up the link, and it now can't be found anywhere. Maybe I really am nuts.

The problem with such a scenario is that the virus would have to get into your computer in the first place.
