Monitors are in general NOT user repairable. Back years ago (been fiddlin' since the 1980s) I used to be able to buy the video board for the old Liberty monitors and replace those. CRT monitors have flyback transformers, caps that carry a SERIOUS charge, and are nothing for the uninitiated to be messing with. You can literally kill yourself fooling around in the guts of them.
Yeah, I was half kidding about the repair part, but get this...I plugged the monitor in to the old computer and it works on analog. The Dell is apparently digital video and my monitor accepts both inputs. I am going to check the connector pins - I used to work in a place that made cables, so I know what to look for. Thanks again!
OK, took the cover off - popped the memory out and then re-installed, checked and have the video onboard, closed it up, powered up and nothing...but wait...I have to be sure it's not the monitor. It's a 19" Samsung LCD, not that old.....I swapped monitors from our old computer and guess what? It's the darn monitor!

Yup, never assume it's not a particular part by the age of that part, electronics can fail at any time without warning. Coule be the power supply, inverter, cheap capacitors that blew...
Yikes when I read Inspiron, I thought of the laptop for some reason, probably since I have one lol. I am glad you found the problem though yourself, because you saved some time and money on your part.
