bought one today for a friend who just wants to surf. IE is in chinese with a few words in English. tool bar, menu bar, etc all are in chinese. any suggestions before I take it back to morrow and raise my blood pressure?

maybe just reset the language option to US English? I remember helping a friends parent do this. Control Panel? I guess the hard part here is that you may need to rely on the icons since the description may not be in English.

Hope you can find your way to the Control Panel (控制面板) "Regional and Language Options" (区域和语言选项) ...

Then download Firefox.

What I learned when I ran into this problem for a client was.. that there is only 2 ways to do it.. add the language on a english laptop... (and sometimes that's not adequate enough) or have installed a language specific version of windows.. you should look for the product key on the bottom if that's written in chinese you likely have a chinese version of windows.. as for reverting (somewhat) you may be able to through control panel

Thanks guys.......I simply went in and deleted all chinese fonts, then did the language set up and took off all the oriental languages (I don't talk to china anyway).
