I intend to use it for a little bit of everything, split between school (essays/computer tech stuff/ Rosseta Stone) and entertainment (movies and light-moderate gaming). Im no artist, but it would be interesting to try out photoshop... maybe.
Id really like a Tablet PC, but I keep hearing that they cant handle all this ^
Tablets are pretty niche products. Odds are that if you don't know what you'd do with it, you don't need it and would be better off with a traditional laptop.
However, netbooks have slower CPUs, so graphics intensive applications are not really as well suited. I am not sure about Photoshop. The less powerful CPU can be offset somewhat by installing an additional low-resource Linux OS that is more efficient than Windows. CrunchEee (based on Ubuntu) Linux, for instance, is optimized for netbooks.
If you're a student, I would totally recommend the tablet. Here is great website resource for researching Tablet PCs: endlessscholar.com. It used to be called The Student Tablet PC, but it went through a name change last year. The Author of the site is a tablet user and I think she studied engineering in college, so she obviously had to have a pretty powerful computer.
From a personal experience, I used to have a Toshiba M200 and it was a pretty awesome tablet. There are many on ebay right now. However, Vista is supposedly optimized for tablets. Tablet PCS used to have their own version of windows, but Microsoft is really wanting tablets to become more popular and students are the perfect audience for them.
I'm looking into the new HP TouchSmart tablet. It doesn't break the bank like some of the others. The other option would be the Toshiba M750.
If you are looking to do any gaming, you need to consider if the video card/processor can handle the games you want to play. Most integrated video cards are not very capable of gaming except for simple kiddie games and EA sports games.
The Touchsmart Tablet is a good concept but I don't think the applications are widespread to utilize that technology.
