I am new at computers, and I need to learn HOW TO PASTE. I have a basic computer book, but the instructions are not that explicit.

Also, how do I SAVE SOMETHING to my desktop?

And when I am instructed to LET IT INSTALL to the default, what does it mean? Thank you so very much!

Pasting something means taking what's on your clipboard and putting it where you want it to be. How do you get something onto your clipboard? By copying it. How do you copy? First highlight the text by placing your mouse cursor at one end of the text and holding down the left mouse button, then move the cursor to the other end of the text you want to copy, and release the mouse button. The text will be highlighted in a contrasting color. (It works a little differently for pictures and graphics.) Then to copy it, do one of the following:

• Right click on it while it's highlighted and select "copy".
Or...
• Press CTRL and "C" at the same time.

To paste it where you want it, simply place the mouse cursor where you want to paste the text and then do one of the following:

• Right click and select "paste".
Or...
• Press CTRL and "V" at the same time.

To save something to your desktop...

From within a document file, select "File" from the menu bar at the top of your document and select "Save As..." On the left side of the box that pops up (or in the options box at the top), you'll see an icon that says "Desktop". Make sure you select that. Then you'll see a place at the bottom of the box that asks for the file name. Choose whatever name you want, and then press the "Save" button.

When something wants to install to the default location, it just means the software already has a predesignated folder where it will install itself unless you instruct it to install into a different folder. If the predesignated folder doesn't already exist, the software will automatically create it for you.
