My friend who is an IT told me that they can only see what web-site you went into and they can't see anything else. Today I went into my personal yahoo e-mail at work and I opened it which showed a naked picture of my friend, so I closed it quick. No one saw me but I am just wondering if those "computer people" can find out later on that I saw that picture?
It depends on how paranoid your company is. For the most there is stuff that is stored on your computer(like history of web sites you visit) but no one really looks through this stuff unless something happens first(ie you get a virus or spyware, etc). I think people have this image that IT people are sitting there watching what people do on their computers like a security guard watching security cameras. That's probably not the case. I know I got more important things to do then sort through logs of what people were doing on their computer.

the history of web sites i am not concerned about. we can go into our yahoo e-mail as long as we don't abuse it. so are you saying they can only see what web site i was in but they can't see the picture?

The picture is buried in your browser's cache. They could find it if they went looking for it but I don't see them bothering unless they were already watching you closely.
What do they see? Probably not much, unless your company's extraordinarily strict about Internet/computer use, or your network staff are bored.
As a former network admin for a medium size software development company, I can say from experience that you'd be amazed at what people use their work computers for! If the bosses knew what people were browsing or what types of personal files the employees kept on their company-owned PCs, they'd be shocked!
IMHO, any company with more than a few employees should have technology in place to at least monitor what's going on, if not block misuse outright. Company computers and networks are company property and employees are permitted to use them for business purposes. Besides the time/resource waste involved with employees misusing company equipment, there's also legal implications with employees viewing porn or posting libelous statements on blogs, forums, etc.
I ran a forum where an employee of a company (a law firm, no less) posted something libelous - the firm had to issue a public apology for the actions of that employee. I don't know what happened internally, but I'd be surprised if that employee still had a job at the end of that day...
Check your Yahoo! mail when you get home. The company provides you with these tools so you can do your job more efficiently, not so you can check your personal e-mail while on the clock.

It depends how your company is set up. As escape said, they technology exists for them to see everything, it depends if they set all that up or not. If they didn't, then you're probably fine.
My company, all they log browsing history but don't really use it unless you get in trouble.

It's trivial to capture the network traffic and reassemble the TCP packets into a viewable image. If their network is setup with a proxy server, they don't even need to go that far - the image is sitting in the proxy cache...
I would say don't worry about it, and if you get approached, just explain what happened. It was an innocent mistake. And be more careful about which messages you open...
What informaqtion can they see when I am using company computer
My husband is a Senior Unix Systems Engineer with almost 30 years worth of experience. There isn't much he can't tell a person about computers and how they work. Your company is seeing just about everything you are putting into your computer and if you think they are not you are dead wrong. Do not ever put personal stuff on your computer at work. It is stored on your hard drive and whatever they cannot see immediately, they will see eventually on the hard drive. At my husband's company, the second anyone goes to a website that this company considers off color or inappropriate, they cut them off immediately then keep a record.
Whether or not your company has this much sophistication within their computer system...another deal all together. Just do not ever use the company computer for private things and you will be ok. As far as this naked pic. that showed up on your personal Yahoo email account, even if they did see it, you should be ok because you were not the one who sent it. Tell your friend to never, ever send this type of thing to you again..it is a dumb thing to do regardless.
Who's to say our servers aren't caching the same thing your browser's caching... Trust me, log files log things....
