I've been seeing these kind of ads popping up more frequently lately. First impression is alarming, thinking your own antivirus program has scanned your computer, found a problem, and is giving you a warning. But it's just a sneaky ad. Even with a popup blocker activated, they still seem to pop up anyway. I'd recommend avoiding the lure. It's possible some of these things could install other crap on your computer.

One thing I noticed (of the ones I've seen most frequently) is the color of the "warning" text box. The ones I've seen tend to be heavy with red color. It's NOT the same color combination as most of the actual antivirus programs I've used. To be on the safe side, disconnect from the Internet and run your own antivirus and antispyware programs to do the scan.

Another irritating ad that's becoming more popular are those that use loud volume sound saying, "CONGRATULATIONS!" etc.
