I am new to this web blocking for kids thing. I see that there are programs to block kids from certain web sites. How does this work exactly? Do I have to find all of the websites I don't want them to access?

Is there a program that I can just put in the sites they are allowed access to? That would be so much easier since there would be very few.

Take a look at OpenDNS, It allows central access control of all computers on your network, prevents the need to install software on each computer your kids might be on.

As I understand it, blocking software comes with a preset filter presuming that you want to block certain types of websites. I think some of the software allows you to customize the filter to block specific sites.

With AOL for example (and upfront I'll say that I've never used it so I don't know how well it works if at all), a parent can choose to control a child's net access by age group and what AOL believes is appropriate for each age. Within, a parent can customize to block additional site.

I have AOL so I'll look into this. Thanks!
