Free AVG is the best. I wouldn't purchase the full version.

Have you had any problems with AVG slowing email to a crawl while it scans; I mean, really, really, slow? If have you found a change to make in the settings for AVG to correct it?

I cannot for the life of me figure out why it happens on some computers and not others that are comparable in CPU, speed, RAM, etc.

Driving me crazy (short trip).

I have seen it happen on random computers. It'll work fine for months or years then one day they can't get email because the email scanner is getting in the way. I've reinstalled it and its fixed it.

I may be a bit late on this one but it was a topic that interested me. i have a compaq 2100 too, it was my first laptop when I gave up with desktops (wanted to keep it neat by changing), mine too is about 5 years old. I bought a new Acer last year which has a huge memory etc, so the old 2100 I stripped down and just use with my printer upstairs now cause the printer wont work with Windows 7. The 2100 I put more memory in and a bigger hard drive and it was fine, also I used AVG and I have heard the paid version makes the pc slower so all that you said is normal, I'd just stick to the free version, have you got spyware terminator on it, thats also free.

You have probably got it all sorted by now but i just thought Id have a mention out of interest.

Take care and thanks for your post on my thread recently, much appreciated x
