As a Mac fan from way, way back I'll have to agree that some of the business choices Apple makes don't do anything to grow their brand.

Does no one at Apple look at the big picture.

People buy iPods or iPhones, revenue for Apple. Then Apple gets all pissy cause a site provides a way to manage content on these devices without using the software they give away for free.

Really makes you wonder why Apple is so hell bent on getting iTunes on these peoples system. What else is iTunes doing? I know that iTunes will install unrelated Apple software on computers without asking permission. The wife allowed an iTunes update to install without reading the pages of tiny print, and it also installed Safari, which in turn broke Windows. Took me about 3 hours of effort to recover her system and get Safari removed.

I think they make some great products, but their business mindset is just stooooooooopid.

It's all about control for Apple. Steve Jobs = control freak. How dare anyone try to use HIS computer or HIS software in any manner not specifically authorized by apple.

The iTunes store is an important revenue stream for Apple. They're protective of the iTunes application because they don't want people mucking with software to scam the iTunes store out of free music and apps. The music industry and the developers who write iPhone apps don't want that either, because some of the money from the sale of apps and music goes to them.
