I need a good simple software DVD player!
My Dell E1705 came with a simple stripped down Cyberlink PowerDVD player only usuable on a Dell. It's really great because it has menu options and it let's you play at 1.5X and 2X speed WITH VOICE! - I need this feature to view dvds quicker! So that's all I need in a software dvd player! Good menu and 1.5x to 2x viewing speed with sound!
Anyone know of software dvd player that do this?
I need this for my i7 920 computer, as Vista Media Player stinks and it doesn't kept track of where you stopped off last [interrupted].

I second VLC media player...with all the different video codecs out there it seems the only software that can handle all of them...and it's free.

I like Cyberlink since you can do a screen capture. I use VLC for most of my DVD viewing, also.
Do not install Interplay - it is not good at all.

Screen Capture for anything is a simple "Print Screen" keypress then paste in MS Paint!

It comes with it's own codec library but they can't be used outside of VLC. Typically a codec needs to be installed on the system and then it can be shared amongst different applications. Media players, editors or whatever else needs it. e.g install it once and you should be able to use it in most applications.
You can always use G-spot to identify the codec you need if a file won't play. From there you can usually download it somewhere but try and find the source, avoid codec paks as they inevitably cause problems.
