What is a system tweaker? What is the purpose of it? Is it necessary to have? Thank you so much!

Can you be more specific? There's probably thousands of programs that could be described as "system tweakers". Short answer: If you don't know what it is and what it does, don't mess with it.

You mean in regards to overclocking? Modifying operating systems? Changing BIOS? etc? That would be my guess.

It's not necessary, some people want to squeeze all the performance they can out of their system. Water cooled, fan laden, overclocked to the max systems. People that change the bios or registry files. Those are hobbiest - usually computer nerds. Usually it causes more trouble then it's worth. Make a few mistakes and you are stuck with a few ounces of melted silicon that used to be a $300 video card, or a ruined mother board that takes your hard drive with it.

I don't believe someone with such a system would be asking such a generic question about a 'system tweaker'. My bet is that a novice saw something about worthless program that promises to turn a 1.8 P4 into a screaming power house.

Google "system tweaker" and you'll see a couple pitches for a product called speedupmypc 3 that comes with System Tweaker ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!! A $29.95 value, no less. From the ad copy system tweaker looks like a gui to let you adjust some settings. The Speed up program looks like a gui that duplicates the functions of task manager and msconfig.

Most of what this looks like it does can be done with ccleaner, which is free.

I ordered a Registry Booster from Uniblue, and was given a System Tweaker for free. It has something to do with settings, but since I do not know anything about it, I am afraid to touch it. Therefore, I was wondering what purpose it serves. Thank you.

The selling price maybe $29.95, but since 99%+ of these programs are basically worthless (at best), I suspect the true value is closer to $0.29.

I've been at this computer work as long as anybody here. I know what a Registry cleaner is; I know what a Registry defragmenter is; but what is a Registry Booster?

Yeah, I was being sarcastic.

mensaguy: a "registry booster" is probably just what uniblue decided to call this registry cleaner.
