You might be able to get a restore disc from the manufacturer of your computer, or you can buy a copy from the link I provided above.

If you just want to install an operating system to make the computer functional, you may be interested in ubuntu, a popular, easy-to-use linux distribution that comes with software for web browsing, email, productivity, and a host of other applications.

Download Ubuntu | Ubuntu

Yes, we know that already, again, what is the make/model of the computer?

No, just go to that website and you can download and burn a CD for free. You can either boot from the CD and run the Ubuntu operating system without installing it, install it to a partition on the hard drive, which would allow you or someone else to install XP to the other partition, or install over whatever else is there without a partition. Before you install it to the hard drive you should probably try running it from the CD to make sure you're comfortable with it. Linux is a little different from Windows, but Ubuntu is a pretty user-friendly version of Linux.

If you don't have recovery CD's, and you didn't delete the recovery partition on the hard drive, check Sony's support site and determine the key stroke yo use at startup to initiate the onboard recovery procedure, if you did delete the recovery partition you'll need to have Sony ship you a set of recovery media.

I used SCRUBDRIVER. From I remember, this software deletes everything.

If you can't get a restore disk or if they are jerking you around, .... look for "XP Black". As the name implies, it's not exactly legal. And watch out for versions that have malware. Then again, there's not much risk since you've already wiped it out and are giving it away.

Just saying, if you've tried everything to get a restore disk and they don't want to support you, ....

Or try Linux Mint. Ubuntu based, but better, in my opinion. Linux Mint even installs better than XP.

If you still have the original documentation and/or the 'key' that you will have to input to activate XP, you may be able to download XP from a bittorrent site; however, this may not be legal where you live.

And the version downloaded would have to match the key, i.e. home/pro/media center then the type of licensing, retail/VLK/OEM
