Good catch QW. I believe the Google toolbar is provided by Dell, along with the Google Desktop.

Hey! Excellent! Someone came along that knew exactly what to do!!!!

And your OS is running leaner because of all the things you did in an attempt to fix the problem.

I'm emailing my clients with this info.

I've already had one response from my emailing that the solution Quiet Walker gave fixed their problem.

Spybot is the old faithful. Has been free and has had great utility for years now. Install, update and scan.

Mensaguy has a good point too, delete your cookies and temp Internet files. In IE, tools/options/general tab::delete cookies and delete files and check the box to delete all offline content.
even some virus scanners can cause the slowdown in question.

This thread exhibits the best of the forum. A problem was presented and suggestions were made and tried. A possible solution was posted, including an explanation of how and why it works. The OP confirmed that the problem was fixed. A celebration is in order.

One of the possible fixes for the OP was to uninstall IE8 and reinstall IE7. The problem was a setting with Google that got fixed.

Now I still have IE7 should I go back to IE8 or leave IE7 since everything is working fine?
