I am wondering if anyone can tell me whats going on here, I have an HP laptop about 7 months old. A few days ago while using it, all the sudden the screen went all crazy with horizontal lines, and would not work. After I restarted it, it was fine until yesterday. It did it again but will not work even after restarted. I found that it works fine if you open it about a 1/4 way, then any farther the lines start coming back and it goes all crazy again until I close it 1/4 way, then its fine. Of course its impossible to use it like that, so I am wondering if anyone knows whats going on and can it be fixed?

If it's only 7 months old, get it into the warranty center pronto!

HP should still honor its own warranty.

Well, I have everything for my business on it, and I would probably have to ship it away for quite a while. I dont mind paying to fix it, just wondering if its gonna be an expensive one.

If its under warantee it should be free. There is a ribbon cable between the bottom and the screen, i know on our toshibas sometimes this wiggles loose and causes the condtion you describe. Reseating these cables and putting it all back together is a start. Our local shop here would charge $90 to do this if we didnt do it ourselves, but i dont know mucha bout HP. Call HP and find their nearest service center, it doesnt matter that you bought it from CC.

Your problem is either a bad LCD panel or bad or loose ribbon cable, if it's the LCD you'll want to use your HP warranty as that can get very expensive.

Like I said, If it is open 1/4 of the way its fine. The more I open it the worse it gets. If I close it back to 1/4 way open its fine again. This is why I am hoping its not the LCD
How do I get to the ribbon?

You'll have to find a supplier of HP OEM parts, it's not likely HP retails them. And for what it's worth, it's rare that a ribbon cable develops a break, especially one as new as yours. If you find a reputable repair shop they should be able to check the cable and connections and source what ever parts you need.
