Recently the icons present in the right side of my taskbar have changed. I don't mind the new ones that are there, but I no longer have an icon for the sound or network status. I can't figure out why they are gone or how to bring them back. I actually used these frequently, so it is really annoying. The only thing I can figure out is maybe a windows update screwed this up. Any ideas?

I've fiddled with all the various taskbar settings that I could find, to no avail.

I freely admit to not being a Vista wizard, but in general there will be a checkbox in the settings area of the sound and network options that will place those icons on the the taskbar.

Go to these areas in Control Panel and do some snooping and you'll probably find them. Well, sound anyway. Every time I go into Networking in Vista I feel like Theseus, sans thread.

I'll wager someone with more experience with Vista will visit before long.

The options for sound and network are grayed out in the properties. I did some checking on the windows help site and think I may have found an answer. I'm just waiting for my other half to get home to do it since it involves some changes in the registry and he's the IT geek, not me.

Here's what I found, just in case someone else is having the same problem.
