Hello

Hope someone can help me please.

I have Microsoft Office Home Student 2007.
I created a document in Excel and emailed it to someone.
They tell me they can not open it. Well, they download it
and when they open it they can not read it.

They do have an older version but didn't think this would
be a problem. The document also contains images (jpegs)

Do you think it might be the way I saved the document?

It has an .xltx extension on it. is that correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yup, HRG can save it down as a previous version of Excel. The above works with an preexisting .xlts doc.

If you are creating a new 2007 excel doc, click file/save and then change the save as file type drop-down menu to *.xls or equivlent.

Or you can ask your friend to install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack:

Download details: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

After that is done, you should consider making that the default behavior for all Office programs. Click on the Office button, then the program options, the Save and select an older version as the default file format. That will minimize the occurance of this problem.
